New homeowners, San Antonio
The city’s Housing Trust, created in 1991, was a major catalyst for change. Within the past decade, reforms in the city’s housing delivery system have enhanced the ability of CDCs to fund housing. The Enterprise Foundation was invited to San Antonio in 1998 and now funds 10 CDCs, which are constructing multi-family and single-family dwellings throughout the city. Although a lot remains to be done, CDCs and other nonprofit community developers are bringing quality housing to San Antonio’s poorer areas.

Living Cities’ partnership with the Enterprise Foundation has helped to establish a shared vision for San Antonio’s revitalization. Affordable housing and services are now being provided by the City of San Antonio, Target 2000, seven CDCs, and local corporations, banks, and foundations.
